Kat serves as a City Councilor in her hometown of Haverhill, MA and made history as the first Black woman and first woman of color to ever be elected into this office. Kat’s personal mission statement is to “Constantly Cultivate Community.”
Dominican-born Rhina P. Espaillat is a bilingual poet, short-story writer, essayist and translator who has founded successful workshops, published 20 books, teaches creative writing to both adults and adolescents, and is a frequent speaker at schools and other cultural centers. The Nancy Peace – Action Against Prejudice Award will also be presented. Rabbi Alex Matthews will be reciting the blessing. Reverend Rebecca Bryan will be presenting the benediction.
