Your reasons for being healthy and fit are personal. But statistics show you’re more apt to achieve your personal goals when you’re not going it alone. You need help from a personal trainer who understands what your body needs, what obstacles lay ahead—who is the right combination of drill sergeant and friend—helping you stick to the path and become your best self! The YWCA Greater Newburyport offers personal trainers with certifications, education, and experience across many all fitness populations. Each trainer will customize a fitness plan around your goals and schedule.

My name is Ilene Harnch-Grady. I have been in the health and wellness field for 40+ years acquiring my first group exercise certification from the American Fitness Association of America in 1980.  Over the course of the last four decades, I have expanded my training to include certifications and Master Training modules in Personal Training, Stott Pilates, Boston Barre,  Registered Yoga Teacher, Body Pump, Arthritis Foundation Master Training (Water/Land),  Zumba Gold,  Spin, YWCA Encore Leadership Program to name a few.  In my current role as the Health & Wellness/Encore Director, I am able to continue to do what I love teaching a variety of classes with a special fondness for special populations including seniors and those with a cancer diagnosis, and providing private/semi-private personal training.  Sharing in individuals’ success in their health and wellness endeavors remains one of the high points and blessings in my current role.

My name is Dianne Brennan and I have been in the health and fitness field since 1980, as fitness hit the big time! After working for Gloria Stevens (now I date myself), I went back to college to get my BS in physical education. Although I never taught in a school system, the knowledge I gained was important. I went on to pursue one of the first National Certifications for group exercise from AFAA, teaching while I raised 3 beautiful kids.

My career in fitness allowed me to be home with my kids, instilling in them the love of exercise. Two of my children have completed marathons, including the virtual Boston Marathon in 2020.

As the fitness industry changed, so did I. In 2013 I received my first certification in Personal Training from the National Council for Certified Personal Trainers. In 2017 I certified again in Personal Training with AFAA. I love what I do. My passion is to instill in someone the love of exercise and the feeling of well being.

Hi all, I have been asked to write a brief informal description of myself and my path to the present day.  I have to say my parents and family including our daughter have had a tremendous impact on my fitness focus.  My father who played DII Collegiate football and was a PE teacher and my mother a nurse, raised me to have an appreciation for health, fitness, and wellbeing, and an understanding that a well-rounded athlete is the best for the “whole” person. 

My love for fitness began at the age of 4 when I was enrolled in Figure Skating Lessons and continued on for years to compete competitively.  I also participated in other sports from swimming and track in high school to DII Collegiate swimming and women’s club lacrosse in college. 

After finishing my studies, I began working as a Chemical Research Scientist in the Natural Products Department for Bristol Myers Squibb and then on to a Biotech company in Worcester.  While working I still remained active hiking, biking, kayaking, paddleboarding, inline skating, and competing in triathlons and road races.

After having our daughter I had the opportunity to focus back on fitness.  I started with becoming a spin instructor and then with our daughter’s interest in lacrosse, which leads her to a D1 lacrosse program, I began coaching youth lacrosse and officiating women’s lacrosse.  Beyond this, I continued my education in personal training, senior fitness, biomechanics of the body, nutrition, and am presently training in Pilates.

Over the years I have come to appreciate that there is no one health, fitness, and wellness regiment for all.  I approach each client and class with its own unique need, a perfect example is the outdoor fitness picture in the snow. 

Present-day, what motivates me?  I believe it is every member, client, and interested individual I have the opportunity to train, teach, or talk with.  I get excited to talk so please reach out anytime and have fun!
