Thank you for celebrating Juneteenth – Friday, June 19th
Crowds joined the YWCA Greater Newburyport and Amesbury Racial & Social Justice as they co-hosted a multi-community Juneteenth celebration this year, with the day starting in Newburyport and ending in Amesbury. The day started with a free Community Swim in the YWCA Pool starting at 12 PM, followed by a flag raising in front of City Hall with speakers including Mayor Reardon, local poets and activists. Following the flag raising, many enjoyed dance performances, presentations from local community organizations, and ice cream (sponsored by Biggarts).
The fun continued at Amesbury Barewolf Brewing for the evening portion with a few words from Mayor Gove and Clare Killian of ARSJ, before jamming to some live music from the band Harsh, local Black-owned businesses and SoulFire BBQ! Thank you all for joining us for an incredible day filled with community building, commemoration, and celebration!
