Water Fitness Instructors


Position Summary: reporting to the health & wellness director, our water fitness instructors are responsible for providing water fitness instruction and efficiently performing such work as needed to preserve the health and safety of patrons participating in the ywca aquatic programs.

Primary Accountabilities: planning, organizing, and conducting water exercise programs that may include aquacise, arthritis exercise, back and joint classes, water walking, strength and conditioning, prenatal/postpartum exercise, sports, fitness training, and other similar classes; providing excellent customer service; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public; preparing and demonstrating appropriate, effective aquatic workout routines (i.e. adapting workouts to varying fitness levels and ages of individual participants); maintaining order and ensuring the safety of all class participants are in accordance with policies and procedures (i.e. ensure safe body mechanics and proper stretching techniques are always conducted); participating in training to further develop skills and knowledge; Assuming the upkeep and storage of instrumental materials (i.e. therapy lift, stereo equipment); embracing and supporting the ywca greater newburyport’s health and wellness culture in promoting all programs throughout the facility to foster optimal wellness for all members and the community as a whole; attending all relevant meetings and performing administrative duties as required; and assuming additional responsibilities as needed.

Position Qualifications: working knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in a comprehensive aquatics program; maintain current aquatic exercise certifications by completing annual continuing education units or re-certification classes as may be required; and current First Aid/CPR for the Professional Rescuer and USS Safety training certifications required.
Our successful candidate, in addition to possessing the above qualifications, will have demonstrated dependability, effective analytical and decision making capabilities, ability to work independently, effective response in performing well under stress related situations, strong oral communication skills, and productive relationship building skills.
