In Memory – Marj Lynn
Marjorie Anne Lynn died Monday, January 29th after battling acute myeloid leukemia for over a year. She entered hospice care in the New Year at the Kaplan House in Danvers who supported and comforted her during her final days. Marj served as the Executive Director of the YWCA in Newburyport for 22 years where she worked to empower women and girls. Her role included oversight of over 3,000 members, recreational facilities including a gym, a swimming pool, and three summer camps. During her tenure at the YWCA, Marj headed two capital campaigns and facility renovations; initiated daycare services, a Family Resource Center and expanded aquatics programs; and developed new affordable housing to complement the existing Women’s Residence. At her retirement, the new residence was named in her honor.
Marj impacted the lives of so many at the YWCA. It is our hope that her family is comforted by the community work she did and the lives of those she touched at the YWCA.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17th at 1 P.M. at the First Religious Society, Unitarian Universalist of Newburyport, 26 Pleasant Street, followed by a Celebration of Life at Steeple Hall at Mission Oak Grill.
